Spring Break

Okay so my plans for spring break is to go to Miami, FL and I can hardly wait. This will be my first time on a plan as well as in Miami. I have been to Florida many times. Disney world and Universal Studios were places my family visited often on our vacations. I must say that I was blessed as a child to have a mother who cared about her children and gave them the world if she could but was also realistic. I enjoyed my times in Orlando but it is time for a new scenery. I am 21 and moms is not gonna be with me on this trip. But I do remember how I was raised and know my rights from wrongs but that doesn't mean I'm not gonna have a great time.

That week it is also my nephew's first birthday. I am too excited bout this as well. I cannot miss his birthday or his birthday party. I was not there for his birth so I have to be there for this and that means my vacation will be cut short but that is alright with me. I value my family way too much to miss out on the great things. Life is too short!

Groundswell

I am interested in reading the book Groundswell by Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff. I only read the summary but from that is states that they have many cases as to how technology has helped many top companies increase sales and knowledge from tapping into the power of technology that is with the times like blogging, twitter, facebook as well as original sales pitches. I'm sure if I was in the business world or owned my own company at this present moment, this book would be a great help but I know that learning this information now is great. You can never have enough knowledge!

This book also got me thinking about my goals and aspirations after I graduate and get an even higher level of education. I want not only to work in database and computer info systems as well as have my own consulting firm . I'm pretty sure i will need knowledge and innovation n to get me the results i want. I know that this is a learning process and to take in as much as i can. I know that one day my hard work will pay off!

Twitter

I have no idea what twitter is all about. Is it like the status portion only of facebook. I assume that you just update your feelings and people follow what you do and get updates on what you do. I mean i can do all of that on facebook. Plus everyone I know is on facebook and i can interact with them more on facebook. On twitter everyone has different names and its hard for you to look them up. So I am use to facebook but I guess twitter is like facebok in a way. I do know alot of people on twitter but I dont think it is as big as facebook. I know I always said I would never do Twitter cause I dont understand it but if I needed to find out sum info on someone i would get on it for sure lol!

New Beginings

It has been a minute since my last blog. Alot has been going on and have not had the time at all. From the flu to anxiety attacks it has been one heck of a week. In my INFS 3500 the exam was harder than I expected and i didnt do so good. I have to juggle alot with my 18 hours but I know that I can do it. I dont see anything that happened to blog about except my emergency room visits. But here I go getting back into blogging!

Behind the Times

So today started off totally wrong, got into Murfreesboro at 3:30 this morning from Memphis. I had an excellent time there but I didn't get any school work done what so ever. I am totally behind in my classes. So from now on I guess I will be on coffee and in the library for the next week or two. I really do hate to miss class but it's like a pattern once you miss one you are completely behind. I'm making a promise to not miss any of my classes unless it's an emergency! On a good note i made an A on my first test of the semester which sets my confidence to new heights. A downfall to that is that I haven't looked at My INFS 3500 work what so ever. I need to do better but I have no clue whats gonna be on this first test. I am at a loss!

Halmark Idea Exchange

Today in INFS 3500 we had a group to present on Hallmark and the article on Idea Exchange. The presentation was very insightful. I didn't know so much was involved in creating a Internet community. They wanted to create a an Internet community(network) to get feedback and surveys, online chats, and bulletin boards. They had plenty of interactions and ideas available to go into bettering their company. Halmark did not create this community but went to an outside provider that is very well at what they do. This all helped in creating a better online experience for the customer and consumer. I think I am going to start sending e-cards now because of their presentation. I believe it is cheaper, more funny and convient, although the downfall to this great idea would be the lack of human interactions. Human contact is needed, and being an internet junky is not cool. I guess that there is a positive and negative side to e-cards.

Data, Information and Knowledge

Thinking about all 3 of these definitions, they all are interchangeable or can be on a hierarchical. I realized that in every analogy I use I can include Data, Information, and Knowledge and it will make sense because these words and their meanings are closely related. Data defined is facts, representation of facts that really don't have a meaning until put into information that is applied by knowledge. Information and knowledge are derived from data ( which may represent attributes of a variable or sets of variables and referring to INF it can be raw data).Information is data received and understood. It is a result of processing, manipulating and organizing data in a way that adds to the knowledge of the person receiving it. Information bears the diversity of meaning, it is data plus meaning that is integrated and consolidated. Knowledge is the application of information and data. Knowledge to me is the simplest of the 3 because it is just the application of information. When you retain information from data you put into affect and u comprehend it and learn from it. I can truly say that I feel I understand data, information and knowledge and find it fascinationg that they are so closely related!

The Wisdom Of Crowds

Well this topic was brand new to me upon entering my INFS 3500 class and I am still trying to understand it. So The Wisdom Of Crowds is a book written by James Surowiecki about the aggregation of information in groups, resulting in decisions that, he argues, are often better than could have been made by any single member of the group.(Wikipedia) he broke down crowd wisdom into 3 parts which were Cognition,Coordination, and Cooperation. Now I believe without a central Idea or main person in charge, great things can happen, people can work together and he expressed the pros of people working together without organization. He also described four elements that were required to form a Wise Crowd; Diversity of Opinion, Independence, Decentralization, and Aggregation. Now I have to say he mad excellent points in explaining his theory. But of course with all theories their has to be failure. He did studies that showed in some cases people produced very bad judgment, argued that in these types of situations their cognition or cooperation failed and were too conscious of the opinions of others.(Wikipedia) So when it came to decision making he went with personal decisions! I know i would be biased as well when decision making is involved. But again this is just my thought on this topic and may be wrong but hey it's just a blog!!

Knowledge Managment

Knowledge management is such a broad term I didn't know where to begin. In class we are focusing on Knowledge management and how it applies to businesses and corporations and that it is used in everyday life.I understand that knowledge management is comprisedof a range of strategies and practices used in an organisation to identify, create, represent, distribute, and enable adoption of insights and experiences. now that I can get, you use knowledge and embed it and it becomes apart of your everyday life and it surrounds us, but as far as the different types of knowledge management and dimensions it is very complex to me. I guess with a little more studying it will become relevant to me!
